2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently developing the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Management Transition Comes After Mixed Feedback
The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing early showing last autumn.
Recently, the company's top executive a key figure updated staff about this organizational change through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the requirement for a clearer vision.
Ismailer expressed that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a renewed approach, aiming to satisfy player expectations.
A Pattern of Key Hires
This announcement echoes a similar step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise development group.
Here is the complete content from Ismailer's memo:
Dear Team—
I understand you all just wrapped up your gathering - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a note, I expressed the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and innovative developers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that partnership to persist.”
Given your hard work and versatility, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS playtest was revealing. It affirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the requirement for a clearer brand.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You took the input to heart and revamped Project ETHOS with a renewed goal - one that’s positioned to deliver on its promise to our fans.
The belief in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To advance the incredible development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome Ben Brinkman as the incoming Studio Head of the team. After some time of discussions, Ben comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s leadership and expertise in the competitive gaming space is considerable, having dedicated the recent years developing and leading some of the most well-known franchises in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and lately, Apex Legends.
Please join me in greeting Ben soon. We are all excited to keep seeing the progress of Project ETHOS in the time to follow.
David

Title Details and Vision
Project Ethos was announced in last year together with a public demo. At the time, 31st Union presented the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an thrilling advancement on the genre."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the game's pitch explains. "Challenge the competition with new abilities, stakes, and tests that shift every match. Do you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Alternatively go big, risk it all, and hope your group can secure victory? The choice is in your hands."
Project Ethos does not have an announced launch window or consoles, but players can expect more updates as development continues.
