Area Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then located many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report early analysis suggest the substance was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials announced they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for tips.
An important political figure said the incident rendered him speechless and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the murder of nine victims by a assailant aiming at people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
